In Ontario, California, a UPS facility has reportedly been “returning” bundles of the PS5 and PS5 Pro 30th anniversary edition back to Sony. This has left many eager gamers puzzled and frustrated. Those who were keenly tracking their limited edition consoles encountered a strange update from UPS stating that the items were being sent back due to “hazardous materials irregularity.”
Concern Among Gamers Over Potential Theft
The first I heard of this issue was from a reader who sent us screenshots of their tracking information. Intrigued, I dug into the matter and found several Reddit threads filled with gamers voicing similar concerns. A common thread linked them all: Packages shipping from Ontario, California flagged as hazardous and thus being returned to sender.
This worrisome scenario has affected players from varied states who have been reaching out to both UPS and PlayStation Support. So far, they’ve encountered a wall of silence, which has left them suspecting that their consoles might have been stolen. Although the majority of those impacted were waiting for the highly coveted PS5 Pro bundles, a handful of people claim they were expecting PS5 Slim consoles.
Given that the boxes these consoles are shipped in prominently feature the PlayStation 30th anniversary logo, it’s easy to see why these gamers fear theft might be at play. However, at this point, nothing is confirmed and it remains mere speculation.
We’ll continue to monitor the situation closely. If you find yourself among those affected, don’t hesitate to reach out and share your story with us.
