Valve is not launching a brand-new Steam Deck quite yet, but fans of their popular gaming handheld have something to look forward to. The company is releasing a special edition version soon, known as the Steam Deck OLED in a sleek white finish.
This eye-catching “Steam Deck OLED: Limited Edition White” will mirror the specs of the 1TB model currently available. However, it comes with a slight price increase, tagged at $679, which is $30 more than the standard version. Set your reminders—it hits the market next Monday, November 18.
Beyond the fresh white and gray design, this limited edition includes a white carrying case and a handy microfiber cleaning cloth for good measure.
Valve has previously dabbled with color variations, introducing the Steam Deck OLED in a smoky translucent casing. That version was a hot commodity but suffered from minor visual cracks. This time, the white model will roll out in all regions where the Steam Deck is sold, including the United States, Canada, and several European countries. Furthermore, it’s available in Australia and parts of Asia through Valve’s partner Komodo. Stock will be evenly distributed across these areas.
To prevent resellers from hoarding these units, Valve is limiting purchases to one per account. Plus, your Steam account must have a purchase history before November 2024 to qualify.
Valve has shared that launching this second limited edition OLED model will guide their future decisions on potential color releases: “We’re curious to see what the response is, and will use what we learn to inform future decisions about any potential new color variants down the line.”
If you’re interested in that crisp white look without the limited edition price, you can find alternate options through companies like Jsaux and dbrand, which offer backplates and skins. But remember, this official variant will only be around while supplies last.
The company also hinted at the future of Steam Deck, mentioning ongoing efforts to explore new hardware iterations alongside regular software updates.
Personally, the photos give off a nostalgic Wii U vibe, blended with classic iPod aesthetics. It will be interesting to see if this fresh look tempts current owners to upgrade.
