The team behind Black Myth: Wukong, Game Science, has clarified once more that the Xbox Series S’s optimization issues are causing the game’s unexpected PlayStation 5 exclusivity. Despite this, some big-name outlets have been circulating an odd claim about a “secret” exclusivity agreement between Sony and the game’s developers—a rumor fueled by some ambiguous comments from Microsoft. However, these reports have always seemed a bit off to those in the know.
Feng Ji, the director of Black Myth: Wukong, recently commented on this matter via Weibo, a popular social media platform in China, referencing the game’s recent accolade at the Steam Awards where it snagged the esteemed Game of the Year 2024 award. While celebrating this success, Feng Ji expressed disappointment regarding the absence of an Xbox version.
“It doesn’t sit right with me, but that 10GB shared memory, without a few years of optimization experience…” Feng Ji explained, highlighting the challenges posed by the Xbox Series S memory.
In an intriguing twist, Microsoft has publicly stated that they are unaware of any optimization hurdles faced by Black Myth: Wukong on the Series S. A company representative told Forbes, “We’d prefer not to comment on our partners’ agreements with other platforms, but we can confirm that the delay is not due to any Xbox platform limitations brought to our attention.”
So, it looks like we can finally put these rumors to bed.
