Zerat Games, a game developer that has come under fire, recently decided to pull its controversial visual novel from Steam’s platform.
In an announcement on what used to be the game’s store page, the team stated that they didn’t want to create issues for Valve. However, they defended their game’s themes, which included taboo subjects like incest and sexual violence, suggesting these are mere fetishes some people might find entertaining.
“As reported by Kotaku, Zerat Games explained, ‘We get that these themes might be off-putting for some, but during intimate moments, people should be free to explore what they enjoy, provided no harm comes to anyone,'” Zerat Games elaborated. “If you’ve read our statement and still feel that such a game shouldn’t exist, we apologize. We nonetheless urge you to be a bit more open-minded about harmless human fetishes, even if they seem distasteful. Remember, it’s just a game. Despite some attempts to make it more, it remains a game.”
The game’s removal followed quiet action from Valve, taking it off shelves in the UK, Canada, and Australia.
Speaking to LBC, UK Home Secretary Yvette Cooper remarked on the situation, saying, “Content of this nature is already illegal. We’re introducing tougher measures through the online safety act to ensure that all platforms adhere to specific standards.”
She clarified, “These measures are currently being implemented.”
